Assist in Bridge Lift
Mays County, Oklahoma

Project Scope: Assist with the elevation of an existing bridge structure so that new piers could be built and the bridge extended. The bridge was elevated using 4/100 ton jacks.

Background: In June, 2008 the earth fill behind the abutment (end of the bridge) had been washed out by severe flooding. The abutment was originally supported by pilings that were driven through the original earth fill 20 years ago. After the earth fill washed out, the abutment supported by only four out of five pilings. This, coupled with the fact the original pilings had only been set a foot or two into the underlying shale, made the existing pilings unusable for purposes of extending the bridge. The solution required raising the existing bridge 5” and adding additional support.

Project Result: Using TCR’s jack boxes and pipe stands, the bridge was raised to its desired height and the client was able to make the needed changes to the bridge. The project was accomplished without incident or injury and to the satisfaction of the client.

“We wish to compliment you and your people’s expertise and professionalism in supplying and installing the 400 ton jacking system and executing the raising of the bridge. Your cooperation with our crew was top shelf given the degree of difficulty in this situation. We appreciate your efforts and quick execution as part of our building team and look forward to working together in the future.”
